Preparing for Sleepaway Camp: A Parent’s Checklist

Preparing for Sleepaway Camp: A Parent’s Checklist

Sending your child to a sleepaway camp like Northern Academy’s Adventure Sleepaway Camp can be an exciting time, but it also requires thoughtful preparation. Here’s a handy checklist to ensure your child is fully prepared for their camp experience.

  1. Pack the Essentials

Make a list of everything your child will need at camp, from clothing and toiletries to bedding and necessary medications. Check the camp’s packing list to ensure nothing is overlooked. Don’t forget comfort items like a favorite book or photos of family.

  1. Practice Independence

Sleepaway camp is a great place for children to build independence. Before they leave, practice basic skills such as making the bed, packing a bag, or doing laundry.

  1. Discuss Expectations

Have a conversation about what they can expect at camp. Discussing the daily routine, activities, and rules will help ease any nerves and get them excited about the upcoming adventure.

  1. Set Communication Guidelines

Find out the camp’s policy on phone calls, emails, or letters and discuss this with your child. Knowing when and how they can reach you can provide comfort.

  1. Prepare for Homesickness

Homesickness is common, especially for first-time campers. Discuss what homesickness feels like and strategies for coping with it.

  1. Ensure Health and Safety

Make sure your child’s immunizations are up-to-date and that the camp has a record of any allergies or medical conditions your child has. Pack enough of any required medication.

With this checklist, your child will be well-prepared for a successful and enjoyable camp experience at Northern Academy’s Adventure Sleepaway Camp

Igniting Imaginations: The Art, Music, and Culture Odyssey at Northern Adventure Day Camp

Igniting Imaginations: The Art, Music, and Culture Odyssey at Northern Adventure Day Camp

If you can, picture a location where the harmonies of music and the chorus of children’s laughter coexist. Imagine a world where youngsters use paintbrushes to transform plain canvases into colorful scenes from their imaginations. This world is not a fantasy. We’ve woven an enlightening tapestry of art, music, and culture into our summer programming at Northern Adventure Day Camp.

Art: The Paintbrush of Self-expression

Why limit imagination’s ability to fly when it may soar to great heights on the wings of creativity? Our art programers at Northern Adventure Day Camp act as a portal to the buried treasure trove of each child’s creativity. Children paint the stories of their hearts onto the reality-based canvas using painting, sculpture, and a variety of other media. These works, which are reflections of their inner selves, encourage self-expression, improve problem-solving abilities, and present a picture of increased self-esteem.

Music: The Symphony of Emotional Intelligence

Have you ever noticed how a straightforward melody may elicit strong feelings? Music has a compelling harmony that communicates to all people. Our “Musicianship” and “Chamber Music” music programmers provide kids the instruments they need to write their own symphonies. They go on an emotional journey that develops their emotional intelligence as they move through the rhythm of the notes. Another dimension is added by the “Musical Theatre” course, which teaches students how to incorporate acting, dance, and voice into a shared narrative. Isn’t it amazing how a common song can transform a crowd of people into a cohesive group?

Culture: The Mosaic of Global Awareness

Do you still remember how awestruck you were when you first realized that there are many different civilizations present in the world, each with its own distinct thread? This sense of exploration is what we want to recreate at Northern Adventure Day Camp. Children add colorful tiles to their mosaic of global understanding as they learn about various cultures through art, music, and dance. This diverse range of cultural experiences encourages empathy and presents a picture of diversity in unity.
